Updated Refugee Admissions Program for South Africans:
A Guide to Applying for U.S. Resettlement
Read full update here:
The U.S. Department of State, in coordination with Homeland Security and various implementing partners, is now offering a refugee resettlement program for South Africans, particularly Afrikaners and disfavored minorities who have experienced or fear persecution due to racial discrimination. This is in line with President Trump’s Executive Order 14204, which addresses the pressing issues faced by these groups.
Who is Eligible for the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP)?
To be considered for resettlement under the USRAP, applicants must meet the following criteria:
South African nationality.
Afrikaner ethnicity or membership in a racial minority in South Africa.
Must be able to articulate a past experience of persecution or fear of future persecution.
If you meet all these requirements and wish to be considered for the program, it’s important to complete and submit the Statement of Interest form.
What’s Next After Submitting the Statement of Interest?
Once you’ve submitted the Statement of Interest form, you may not receive an immediate response due to the volume of applicants. However, it’s essential to complete the form even if you’ve previously contacted the Embassy or another U.S. government entity.
The Statement of Interest form can be accessed through this link.
Important Notes
Free Access to USRAP: Remember that the USRAP process is free, including completion of the Statement of Interest form. You do not need to pay for any external preparers or translators, as translation assistance will be provided by the U.S. government if you are selected for an interview.
Beware of Scams: Be cautious of anyone claiming they can expedite your application for a fee. The U.S. government does not charge for the refugee program, and unauthorized individuals may be attempting to exploit applicants. Do not share your personal documents with anyone unless you fully trust them.
